MY JOURNEY
Dharma:
(from Sanskrit)—In Buddhism, it refers to the teachings of the Buddha. In many Eastern spiritual traditions, Dharma broadly embodies the moral constructs, duties, principles, character, behaviors, practice, ethics and virtues that are in alignment with the path of universal truth and higher consciousness. It is the eternal nature that has always been in existence; it is what upholds the universe, governs society and dwells in all beings.
Born into the Dharma practice, I was first introduced to the Buddhist teachings, meditation, mindfulness practice, and other Eastern spiritual traditions by my maternal grandmother, who cared for me since birth through my early years. She also happened to be a Buddhist nun. It was through her love, wise counsel and gentle guidance that inspired me to embark on my seeker’s journey and spiritual practice at a young age.
Through years of ongoing self-study, and participation in various forms of meditation, I have continually deepened my relationship with the Dharma practice, to enhance my awareness about myself and the world. Despite many life changes, this practice has remained my constant, my refuge, and my anchor, that which has helped me stay grounded, navigate my own life transitions and weather many storms that have come my way.
“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
Personal Life
My childhood years were spent near a beautiful ocean of South Vietnam. The tropical beach was my playground and the ocean breeze sang me soothing lullabies. Art, music, literature, writing, and nature have long held a special place in my heart due to my upbringing. The earliest achievement that I’m most proud of was being the youngest (as a third grader) out of the five finalists in a big creative writing contest in my province of South Vietnam.
Here, in the fast-paced modern world of the West, I strive to cultivate a life of simpler and slower rhythm, a life aligning with my personal path of Dharma—one that isn’t necessarily “Instagram worthy,” and doesn’t need anyone’s validation. But it is a life of purpose, truth, and integrity. It is often sprinkled with humor, physical wellness, artsy-fartsy stuffs, Salsa dancing, sustainable travels, great music, good books, creative writing and many cups of tea.
I also love a good comedy as I do like to laugh. Just as breath is life to the body, I believe that laughter is medicine to the soul. As a foodie, I enjoy exploring different cuisines and cooking different cultural dishes, though I’m better at the eating part. I deeply cherish my quietude spent in nature and relish the playful cuddles with my cat, Honey.
